69 55hp wont shut off

i have read a few posts about this but im shure its a diode in the purple wire going to the switch that is causing my problem like the other posts power is off going to amplifier when engine is off but power when running.their is a ball of hard tar stuff an inch away from the switch in the purple wire im shure its a diode but i dont know what size. or what to ask for.any help would be apreciated thank you.

The blocking diode is part number 383538 if you want to get the right one. Otherwise, you probably should look for something like 10 amps, 50 volts, or better.

With the motor running, key off, and it still running, simply unplug the connector on the blocking diode. If it stops running, then sure 'nuff, that is the problem. However, if it keeps on running with diode disconnected, it is not the problem.

thank you so much for the help.i did have it running then turned key off it stayed running.with engine still running key off i pulled the wire off the switch motor quit.problem solved.thank you.
