'69-9,8 Merc...cracked lower unit...

The lower unit on my 9.8 cracked over the winter...must've had some water in it. I have a similar era 7.5 that I use for parts. Except for the props, the lower units look the same. Can I replace the one on the 9.8 with the one from the 7.5? Are the gear ratios the same, or will I have to put the 9.8 gears in it?

The two legs are fully interchangeable. You might not be able to get the props off to swap them because they often sieze onto the prop shaft in these motors but you could try or just use the other prop from the 7.5.<br />Eric
