I have seen a number of threads speaking about sudden shakes developing for numerous reasons, and thought I would ask directly about mine. I have recently purchased a 1969 Evinrude Explorer. I have had it out a few times for about 10-12 total running hours. The open interior is exactly what I was looking for to fish from and am somewhat fond of the "mule" like appearance. Today I was riding along when it felt like I hit something submerged. Perhaps a tree top or log. Texas Corps of Engineer lakes tend to have plenty of timber. There was a thud and then an immediate shake. The motor never shut off or sputtered because of the impact. A bit in a panic I did turn the engine off and raise the drive to see if there was any visible damage. Since I did not see any I limped back to the boat ramp with the shimmy and put it up on the trailer. Nothing looks cracked or dislodged other than some noticeable scrapes on the hull. I trailered it home, hooked the hose up, and fired it up. The engine ran smooth with no knocking. I have also noticed my electric shift is clicking when throttling up or down. Something it was not previously doing. Possibly coincidence but I doubt it. I knew when buying a 1969 boat I was taking chances on parts being available should something like this occur. Any advice or direction to start looking for my source of issue is appreciated. I checked the prop and there is a small bend in one blade but I am not sure that is the culprit or it is bent enough to have an impact. Thanks in advance.
OH.. and a few details:
The Hull is a 1969 Evinrude Explorer
The engine is a 1972 Buick 155hp - Replaced about 8-10 years ago, so I am not sure of the original equipment
The stringer is OMC and does not have an adjustable trim.
