I have a '69 model Johnson Seahorse 4HP...model 4W69B. I had no spark, i replaced the points and condensers. Now i have a good spark, bright blue nice pop but it still will not fire. I have no knowledge about the needle valves, so maybe that's a problem and if someone could point me in the right directions there i'd appreciate it... Any ideas on why there is no fire please HELP!!!!!!!

If you spray some premix into the throat does it fire? or if you put some directly into the cylinders? Maybe you have fire and no compression, did you do a basic compression test?

check compression, anything around 60 psi, is ok, should be with in 10% of each other. Read the TOP SECRET FILE, 1st thread in this forum. carb adjustments, carb cleaning. that is a great motor.

i don't know what was different about today than yesterday but it finally came to life. I am having trouble about it not wanting to run at slow speed, i tried the method posted in the top secret file and it didn't seem to work. Any suggestions????

may have been, any ideas on the needle valves?? Is the top one slow speed and the bottom one fast speed...The top one can only be turned about 1 turn out and the bottom has lean and rich printed on it and it can be turned out how ever far you want it

Re: 69 Johnson 4hp still problems

if it is like my evinrude the little knobs just pull off and expose the end of the needles. I've found it easier to seat the needles with no knobs, and adjust to the settings in the top secret files. then half seat the knobs back on to tune - then I like to seat the knobs with the high speed on the middle marker and the low speed at 4 - this way I know of somebody else has been playing with the knobs and I can just put the settings back, also if you hit them with your hand or whatever, you have it set to the tuned settings.
