i had it in the water, it fired up, ran for a few seconds, some white smoke(not much more than normal) than stalled out. It started 2 more times just like the first, then nothing. It wont start now. I replaced spark plugs, gas tank and fuel hoses. Any ideas??
thank you

Have you got good spark?
Try squriting some fuel mixture into the carb and see if it runs, if so you might have a carb problem, maybe the needle is stuck in the seat and not letting fuel into the carb.

I put gas in the carb and it fired right up. I will mess around with the carb, any easy fixes for this??

Don't bother messing around with the carb, pull it off and clean it properly and fix your problem.

When you disassemble the carb, watch for trash in the carb and needle and seat. It sounds like the needle is stuck in the seat and not letting fuel in.

Re: 69 johnson 9.5 won't start

Thank you for all that replied and offered advice for my situation. i took the top half of the carb off by just unscrewing the 4 screws. i found the cork float to be somewhat sticky. i wiped it with a cloth wet with seafoam. put it back together, primed the gas and it fired up the second pull.
i had ran it withouty properly storing the boat over the winter (about 4 months.) i am unfamiliar with how to actually dpo that so i will continue researching how to winterize properly. i put seafoam in this gas and after this tank plan on using non ethynol gas only.
