Ive never owned a merc before and I was was changing oil in lower unit and normally I remove both plugs,drain and fill through bottom hole until I see oil in top hole but that doesnt seem to work on this engine.Is there somekind of trick to it?

Is it possible that you removed the FLUSH screw rather than the top oil screw?<br /><br />TMD

The drain screw is the large slotted one at the bottom of the gearcase bullet. The vent screw is the smaller round-headed one just above the cavitation plate, set in at an angle. The other large slotted screw is a flush access...<br /><br />- Scott
