So guys, my 25902 has the small set pin for the gears that's in the case broken off flush. Probably from running with a bad dog. I'm gonna replace it but in the mean time, what's the damages that can be caused from running with it short term?

Never heard of a set pin... but if you're speaking of the philips head pivot pin... and the head has been completely sheared off, that eliminates the gasket so it's possible for oil to leak out and water to leak in.

In all my 30+ years with OMC, I've never heard of one of those pivot pins having their head shear off. With the head sheared off, there's no torque to hold it in place and although highly unlikely, it could back out.

The forward gear bearing has a pin to locate it for proper oil flow through the bearing.----It that the one in question here ?

It ain't broke off, it's mashed down into the hole. We see it all the time. You can drill it out and install a new one, or you can drill a second hole.

Good catch.. That locating pin for the forward gear bearing... Damn, forgot all about that one, and I've seen so many pressed flush into the gearcase in error. Brings back nightmares of drilling those damn little things out.

A "Set Pin" huh?... Yeah, that's an apt name for it, sorta rings true.
