69 tilt question

I have a 1969 evinrude 85hp #85993m.
1. Was power tilt available that year?
2. Does anyone know the part # so I can search ebay etc.?
3. I did get smart and buy both the service and parts manuals (factory) but haven't found tilt info.
4. Is there a range of years that will fit?
5. I come in at low tide often and power tilt would be nice but I can't spend several hundred on the aftermarket cnc t&t systems. Any info would be very helpful. Thanks to many of you my old P.O.S boat goes along nicely and the motor runs as new.

Re: 69 tilt question

OMC V4s came with factory power tilt even before 1969, anything from 1966 to 1975 will fit. HOWEVER the systems are expensive used and very difficult to install - particularly if the motor's seen saltwater service, as your's has. You have to remove and replace one of the 'shocks' in the clamp with a hydraulic ram. Getting those pins out & getting them back in is nearly impossible without a machinist. The pump/motor is easy to fit - it just mounts onto that triangular pad with the three bolt holes you've got on your clamps already.

You aren't saying it's impossible to navigate a boat without grounding the prop, right?

Thanks for the info laddiesservice and ledgefinder.I have a feeling that if I get into the shocks on this old beast I'll end up causing more harm then good. I guess the best option will be another tilt pin to get that thing higher for the last leg of the trip when I miss the best tides. A better option would be to win the lotto, buy a new boat, then get a slip at the marina in S. Freeport. :)

We had a BM1 run a twin screw into an ammunition ship-that was navigation for ya ledgefinder.
