I have a 6hp Evinrude Fisherman it’s old I really don’t know what year, I was told maybe a 60s model. Anyway, sometimes it will crank and run great, despite not really wanting to idle. Then there’s times where it will just crank and run for a second and cut off, and no matter what it won’t run no matter how many times you pull it. It seems like it’s flooding because you can smell the gas very strong but I’m not doing anything intentionally to flood it. When it would run I was having to keep it primed so it would run wide open. I have put a new float in the carburetor but that’s all i’ve done to it. Im really lost on what to do. Any help would be nice, thanks.

pull the carb ...clean all orifices blow all passages

6hp is a wonderful little engine should work great. lots of utubes to help you clean that carb...you may as well check under the flywheel check all electricals, replace condensers if never done clean the points etc...etc...

see carb job on a smaller 3hp.... same process with the 6hp

and change the impeller if age is unknown !!
