Ive just been given this motor, it's been sat in a garage for 5 yrs and will not turn over. I've got it tilted back with WD40 in the cylinders, I plan to let it soak for a while before working on it.
Can someone give me the year so that I can get a manual. Mod # 69B66E Serial # B035860.

Also the electrical connection on the side of the motor, is this for battery charging, if so is it fully regulated. ie connect straight to a battery or do I need extra bits.

Many Thanks

Richard

Re: 6hp Evinrude questions

What an odd model number. I didn't think I'd find it, but there it was. It's a 1979 6Hp. Are you sure the wiring to the side isn't for a kill switch? In any case, I doubt a 6Hp would have a regulated charging system. If it has a charging system, it would be unregulated.

Thanks for the help,
I'm not certain about the wiring, I'll get a manual before I start taking it apart.

Re: 6hp Evinrude questions

If the motor is indeed stuck - I would do a complete disassembly. More than likely, there are bearing problems to be found inside, and even if you were to loosen up the motor without taking it apart, it's service life would likely be measured in minutes. If you're lucky, you'll just find that someone tilted up the motor enough to allow water to get to a piston and stick the rings to the wall. Worst case is that the motor was submerged or run without oil and all sorts of issues inside. Won't know until you check it out. If you have any play whatsoever in the flywheel/crankshaft, that's a good sign that your problems may be minimal. If there is absolutely no play in the flywheel or crankshaft, then things could get messy...

- Scott
