Hello, sorry if this has been asked before - not much experience in forums. Just bought an old Grumman Sport Boat that came with a Johnson 6hp Sea Horse. I have BIG adventure plans for this spring, so I want to get the motor 100% this winter. Any help on year ID so I can get the correct manual and parts? Unfortunately the number plate is missing. I was told it was a 1970ish...were there big changes from late 60’s early 70’s? Thanks in advance for ANY advice!

The cowling tells me it is a 70 model.----These motors are just super in my opinion.-----First thing I do on these is remove the flywheel.-----Sometimes both coils are cracked.----Often there is a new set in there.
