Need suggestions. My 6hp will not run without manual manipulation of the choke. It'll start, usually first pull, but will not run without choke being pulled out part way. If it doesn't start first or second pull it floods. Pull the plugs and they're saturated with gas. Any suggestions on how to fix this would be appreciated.

Re: 6hp yamaha 1984

When I first got my 8HP (1985), I had to run with the choke about 1/2 way out. I took apart the carburetor and cleaned it, and now it runs like a champ. I disassembled the carb, removed all the rubber gaskets, soaked the metallic parts in carb cleaner overnight, and hand-cleaned everything the next day, blowing compressed air through all orifices. I did not buy a carb rebuild kit, but just cleaned everything really well. Now it runs like a champ, develops more power and higher RPM than before, and runs best with the choke fully in.
