I just picked up a Chaparral 252 deck boat from an auction with a 7.4 Mercruiser engine. No manuals included. Where would I find general info on this engine i.e. oil recommendations and such. It hasn't run in 3 years so I'd like suggestions on what all I should do so I don't ruin it before I take it out. It was started at the auction for about 10 seconds just to show it runs. I will change the oil, drain and refill the lower, etc but I need info on what oil weights I should use, etc.
thanks all.

Drain the drive, pull it, and install a new impeller. ESPECIALLY if this "auction" was on dry land and it didn't have water to it. While the drive is off check the bellows, grease the U-joints, splines, and check the allignment.

Find the appropriate manual here...http://boatinfo.no/lib/library.html#...I don't know the year, but it's probably #14 or so.

Thanks for that info. It is a 1998 but I didn't see a manual for that one. But I will follow your advise. More work, but I don't want to lose my investment.
