Have a 94, 7.4L Mercruiser that has stripped teeth and broke the fresh water/fuel pump belt three times in the last 18 months. Never the other two belts. Had the alignment checked, tensioner replaced, and water pump re-built all in that time frame, still ruins the belts. Since this is the only belt that serpintines around pulleys, could this be a heat related problem do to excessive flexing. The belts that stripped teeth had no glazing on the back, but did have a few cracks in the tooth gullets around the belt, even though they average six months old. I purchased the Gates green line which is supposed to be a premium belt, No luck.
Is there a better one out there?. This happens at cruising RPM. I rarely jump on it hard.
