I have a new-to-me '58 7.5 Fastwin and have a question or two.

First, I don't have a manual, will soon get one, but in the meantime, do I assume correctly that the water pump is conventionally located in the lower unit?

Little oval plate removed for shift linkage access?

What about the twin hose? I see conversion kits but would prefer to leave it as original as possible. Any particular reason to convert it to single? I see the twin hose is available . . .

Thanks!

A 1958 Fastwin is 18hp.
A 1958 7.5 is a Fleetwin.

The water pump is located in the bulge above the lower unit gearcase. If it has an oval plate (Fastwin) yes. The Fleetwin does not have one.

Fuel tank?? Whatever makes you happy.

If yours is a Fastwin (18hp) it will have a plate in the side of the exhaust housing to disengage the shift rod. If it is a Fleetwin (7.5hp) you have to remove the powerhead to disengage the shift rod.

Aye, it's a Fleetwin. I must have been whiskey'd up. And the powerhead removal was discussed at length in an excellent thread on iBoats, and the impeller is ordered from iBoats.

I ran across a supplier for the dual hose line some time ago, but unwisely neglected to bookmark it. I do believe it was a dealer specializing in vintage outboards.

Can anyone steer me in the right direction?

vintageoutboard.com or laingsoutboards.com

You might be wise to order some o-rings for your fuel line connector at the same time.
GOod luck,
