I have a 57 johnson 7.5 hp model 7522 that I am restoring. Got it running and there is water coming from a port at the bottom of the head. I've never seen this before, Question is, is this normal or do I have an issue with the head?

There is a " welch plug " there that is loose and needs to be replaced.------Simple job and you might be able to do that by removing the rear half of the lower cowling.----Or remove the cylinder head to do this.

Welch plug that comes in carb kit fits.. if your plug is still there and just canted over and leaking, you may be able to tap it in flat and reset..

Welsh plug, core plug, freeze plug, whatever you call it. Fact is the situation is rather common. The thin aluminum disc simply rots out. Replace it with a new one and get another 60 years out of it.

Maybe this on the semantics:

freeze plug if it opens up after Michigan winter storage in the shed. Rust plug if it blows out after a few seasons in Florida without flushing.

Core plug if it stays put. Expansion plug if you have to figure out how to replace it.
