I picked up a 1970 9.5 hp Model 9022 and the idle adjustment knob at the pivot for the tiller handle is loose and pushes out. It has a long square shaft but doesn't appear to have a clip or anything to hold it in place. What keeps it from sliding out?

Bumping to the front for one more try at this. Anyone know how this idle adjustment knob is secured?

Thanks, it looks like a simple C clip. I see it's $7-$9. Must be special.

If you can find a "C" clip made of stainless steel try it, I would.

What a pain of a job but I got it repaired. It is a simple C-clip that came off some how. It was still in there so I just snapped it on again and reassembled. Evinrude gets a thumbs down for designing that assembly where you have to line up the handle catch, a spring, throttle handle pivot, idle knob rod and feed the gas line through a hole. Four hands would have made it easier!
