I'm looking at buying a 16' bowrider with a 70 evinrude and have a few questions.

Any issues with this year and model?

Will it have enough power to push along with two people and gear? (Seems like a small motor for size of the boat)

How does the noise level of the motor compare to other makes? (wife likes a quite ride)

Fuel composition?

Thank you

Depends on the boat as well, and as DJ already mentioned it helps to know the year/size of the motor. Give more details and you will probably get a detailed reply.

The 70 is a very nice engine. Lot's of power for it's size and weight. Decent on fuel too.

That sounds like a nice match.

Prop it right and it will tow well. You want your max. RPM to be at least 5500 with a moderate load.

Gonna do a compression test I'd imagine? I don't care if Jesus himself was selling me a motor, I'd bust out my US General in a heartbeat.

Also ask if they know if the lower unit has a leak, water in oil. I've done it once before but not everyone like it done to there motor or to do it. Ask to spill some oil out to see if its milky. If it isnt and everything checks out buy it and take it home and re fill the oil.

If it is milky and judging by everything else checked out, know that you will need the lower unit sealed up and ask for them to take some money off the price.

Also try to get them to run the engine there on muffs. A loaded test would be the best but few will give a 'sea' trial. Cant hurt to ask though.

1) Compression
2)Spark
3)Lower unit seals
