The number two cyl in my early 90's 3 cylinder mercury has backed out about 3/32 inch, enough to brake a ring. No. 3 is ok, No. 1 has moved slighly. Is there a fix? If this were just pressed back in I'm afraid it would just back put again. What might have caused it? Thanks.

Re: 70 hp cylinder sleeve movement

The sleeve movement is usually caused by high heat in the block. Heat develops and the pressed in sleeve comes loose and generally, the piston starts to stick and causes the sleeve to move. The best fix for this is a replacement powerhead. And you are correct, putting them back in place is not a viable option as the condition will definately present itself again.
