I do not know the age of the motorbut it is an older model....probably 80ish.

It has run fine in the past, but I have not had it out in over 6 months.

The boat sits in the lake and I haven't cranked it up in the 6 months.

I went out today....it cranked right up to my surprise. It idles fine and hign speed idle is good. As soon as I take off from the dock at slow speed all is well...then I try to power up and it does not power up at all....no speed under load at all...it did stall once while trying to give it juice. Mostly it just stay at slow speed and will not get up...any suggestions?

A good carburator cleaning and rebuild, and fresh gas should get you on your way.

Fresh gas I have...would it be normal to be able to rev so high in whe I put it in fast idle but still not run under load? I guess I have alot to learn...I'm glad I found this board...is there a spray I can clean the carbs with or do I need to take them out and apart?

I agree with Walker on the need to dismantle and clean carburetor porting and orifices. When an engine sets out of use for extended periods, the aging fuel leaves gummy deposits in carb jets and passages.I also recommend performing a link and synch. This will assure that the carb flaps begin opening equally and evenly across the throttle range and are timed with the advance of the ignition timer base. Also insure the engine is running the proper Champion sparkplugs and are gapped correctly.

A couple of other things you may want to do is a compression test and a lower unit lube change.

Sounds like you may have dropped a cylinder. If you have a buddy with you do a spark test when this happens. If you are by yourself you can pull one plug wire at a time and see if there is any change. If there is no change then that would be the offending powerpack if your engine is equipped with them. I do not have a manual for your engine but I hope you do.
