Hello,
I got the motor to start but it is making a lot of smoke, and it starts up like wild then slows down, sometimes stops. If I get it to run and try to put it in gear it stops.

Help!!!!!!

Is this a new-to-you motor/boat? Sounds like it was stored with fogging oil. That protects the internals during storage from rust. If there is a lot of thick black stuff coming out the exhaust, it probably was fogged. Get fresh plugs, fresh gas, and try again. Don't rev the motor, and be sure it is in a tank of water, or on muffs.

also sound like the carbs, need some attention. here's info on the motor, buy there, or get the numbers and watch ebay.

Thank you I will look inot this. One thing I notice is that when I get it running it sounds like it is going to blow up then it starts to slow down and at times looks like it is changing speed or rev. You can see the smoke come and go.
