Disconnect the big red connector(Yours may be different color) in the engine compartment and jump out the starter. See if you then have spark. If so, the problem is upstream of the motor(Wiring in control, Grounded wire going to motor, Kill Switch, Etc)....

Plug looks like this:

In the upper left corner of that picture, you'll see a smaller red connector. There is a five amp fuse in there .

If it is blown, there will be no spark. Next will be to figure out why thae fuse blew.

Re: 70 hp johnson no spark

Wish I could help, I'm having the exact same issue on my 72 65hp. Running, stalled, no spark. I'm new to boating, and had no idea where to start. So... being the novice that I was, I started replacing components to the ignition system. Now I've replace everthing, power pack, coils, plugs, rectifier, and stator. And $600.00 later still no spark, so I guess my last resort is to try suggestion from rickdb1boat!

My fuse is fine, but I was looking at the stator at the iboats store and one from boatpartstore.com, and the one that I purchased, and all three are different. The one I purchased is solidblack, and the salesman said the coild were made in to the stator? Did I get the wrong part. Evinrude part #0581114?

The stator I got was from Bombardier, and the part #581235. but I couldn't find a pic of it?

581114 and 581235 are one in the same. The part number was just superseeded. It is the correct one for your motor....
