I have a 70 HP big orange Stinger mean machine this motor runs great until the motor gets good and warm like when your all the way on the other end of the lake. When I shut it off to use my trolling motor and try to restart the motor and then NO SPARK ON ALL CYLENDERS .So now after being towed off of the lake the next day after everything has cooled down I hit the ignition switch and all of a sudden the motor will fire like nothings wrong.
Has anyone had this problem and if so how did you solve this issue. This problem has had me scratching my head for some time now.I hate to have to take off the mean machine and go to my backup Merc because its probably something simple. Thanks IBts.

You have a heat failure in the powerpak, Rick. When you stop after a WOT run the engine temp increases (cooks) when the water circulation stops. When it does, the temp sensitive part fails. Cool it down and it will work again. If you idle the engine for a few minutes before switching to the troller it might start again.

Try to duplicate the problem with a hair dryer with the engine running (at idle) on muffs. Heat the ignition system. Don't replace the powerpak until you have proved that it is failing.

Honor outboard tech rule #1: If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Make sure it is broke first, then spend to fix it.

Good luck. :)

Ancient Mariner, Thanks for your reply this problem has had me scraching my head ever since it happened. It was in the upper 90s that day and after the motor quit we took the boat to the bank where we checked it for spark,we had nothing on all 3.After a few houres we just limped back with the trolling motor and by the time we got back to the ramp it was dark.Still no spark I mean you think that power pak would have cooled down by then but no sighns of life. The next morning we just bumped the key and it fired rite up.That power pak must have to completly cool down before it would go back to functioning.I mean cold to the touch. This is not a sign that the power packs are going to need replaced in the near future is it or I just hope its a fluke thing that may never happen again.
