I recently purchased a f/s boat with a 70 HP Yahama (1986) with a 17 pitch prop. The first few times I had it out, WOT registered about 5700 on the tac. This evening WOT was nearly 7000 RPM's according to the tac. It didn't feel or sound different than before but I didn't want to tear anything up so I backed off the throttle. My question is does this sound like a tac problem or something different? I had the boat out last night and everthing thing was fine. Tonight, the tac is reading much higher and the lowrance flasher was not working. Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: 70 HP Yahama high RPM ?

Does your engine sound different from 4000 to 5300?Ill bet the answer is yes.Trust me if the engine was doing 7000 you would know, the boat would be going a lot quicker. So I would suggest you have an electrical problem either in the tach or on the motor/boat.Im not sure how Yamaha tachs work.Whats a lowrance flasher  ???I thought they made echo sounders & GPSs...new one on me :D :D :D Hope this helps
