well i found the key and i couldn't get anything in the controls to work. All the wiring inside the control box seems fairly straight forward color to color. The only multi parts seem to the all the black wires. Where do they all go? How can I test out the controls or maybe the box on the on the motor.
When I say its not working when I turn the key the starter doesn't work. No clicks or nothing.

When the key is on I can jump the starter and it will run until I turn the key to off.
Also the kill switch works.

So Off works,
On Works,
Kill Switch works
Start circuit not working
Me tired... me lost.... me no idea what the F is wrong...

Re: 703 yamaha controls not working

The 703 side mount control comes with a long black (thick) cable assembly that plugs into the engine under the cowling.

This black cable controls all the electronic engine functions.

The other wires that are snubbed off with pushon connectors, are for accessory equipment such as a tach, trim guage, and other electronic devices.....totally separate from engine functions.

For engine control functions, all that needs to be done is connect the large black connector to the engine receptacle.

99% of electrical problems are due to a bad ground.
Check the large black plug for corrosion free connections and work backwards.

Connections are made, not using any accessories or gauges at this point. All I am trying to do is get the key to start the starter motor. Double and tripple checked all the connections under the cowl to the cdi to the connector to the controls. And everything seems ok. What color wires under the cowl and where is the wiring for the starter circuit? The. On and off controls work. Just the starter ciruit is not working.

What model motor do you have?

Did you recently replace the controls with the 703 model?

If you did, were the previous controls working ok?

If you did not, did the starter engage "before", when you had the key, and now it's not?

How long has it been between now, and the last time the control key engaged the starting motor?

Its a 91 30hp 3 cyl. I bought the controls and along with the motor used and they were supposedly working previously, but I have no way of knowing for sure. Is there a way I can test continuity through the ignition to see if the ignition is functioning?
