I am thinking about purchassing a 1995 70hp Force outboard for my boat. The guy is asking 600 dollars for it and says it ran great and had been serviced regularly but the magnet on the flywheel had broke. He has the part and just hasnt had time to fix it. My question is could this be something that was either caused by a major problem or caused a major problem. Ive already scrapped the first motor i purchased because compression was bad so im a little nervouse about purchassing a motor that doesnt run. Any helpful insight would be much appreciated. thanks

can you check the compression on this one before you by it? I will say if someone has the part to fix a problem and dosen't, it normally means the issues are deeper than that one fix. I would be werry of this one... maybe for 400 though, and that stator he was offering.

im considering taking it to a local mechanic before i purchase it to check to see if that is the only problem. plus its an older gentleman that had full intintions on fixing it but the heat down here in mississippi has kept him away from it. thanks for the advice thats kinda how i feel about it as well

A broken magnet could cause damage to the stator and trigger be cautious. Is he saying it ran good BEFORE the magnet broke? Who knows how it runs now that it hasn't been fixed yet.
