I have a 70hp force that starts and runs fine but is hard to start and will stall in neutral after running for a while. Usually have to manually throttle carb to get it to turn. Any help? Thanks

Re: 70hp Force hard start when warm

So after it is warm, and you turn it off and try to restart it right away, does it start?

Or is it only a problem if the motor sits for 20 - 90 minutes?

Then after it is restarted, it will stall, run crappy like it is flooded?

May be time to replace the fuel pump diaphragm.
As they age, they develop leaks, which dump gas into the crankcase, and flood out the bottom cylinder.

$18 at your Mercury dealer, and about 30 minutes of your time.

If it hasn't been done in the last five years, it is probably time to do it.

No, I put it the water and it runs fine until whenever i stop, when I try to restart it cranks fine but wont start. As I said I manually move the throttle on the carb and eventually it get it to start by holding the throttle and get someone to put it in gear. It stalls as soon i go into neutral but runs fine otherwise. Thanks ,I will change the diaphragm next time I am up at the boat and let you know how it goes. Thanks again.
