70hp Johnson motor

Found a 70hp Johnson today and was told that it had hydraulic assist lift on the motor, I'm not familiar with this can someone explain. thanks. When I asked what year it was the owner said 80's

Some non power trim motors has a " gas charged cylinder " that made tilting a bit easier.

Or of course he could be speaking of power trim.

looking at motor on facebook marketplace, all I could see was the motor on the back of a boat.

It has a gas assist shock kinda helps raising it. I always thought it helped more for lowering by preventing the motor from free falling. No tilt and trim on that.

I know what happens when motors have no lowering assist, . Got my finger pinched in a merc 850, they free fall fast. 11 stitches.
