70hp johnson starter problem

hello, going to sell boat and wanting to start motor up for buyer and charger was hooked up to battery while starting motor,i've done this many times, but this morning everything was working like it should,motor was turning over and charger started to smoke(going bad) now the starter won't do nothing,turn the key and all it does is click. checked connetion with volt meter and getting juice to solenoid and then when key is turned getting juice to starter but nothing happens.... does this sound like the starter? connetion is good and battery is clean. need fast help please.....thank you

Sounds like you fried the battery. Click usually means you're getting volts but no amps.

okay.. ive tried to use my truck battery while it was running and it was the same thing
