Engine allowed to run out of fuel. Idels great, but when you throtle up motor acts like is funing out of fuel. Can continue pumping fuel bulb and will pick back up.

If yours has oil injection, it got a good gulp of it when you ran the gas tank dry. The gas was running out and the oil pump was still pumping full oil. If you can keep it running it should eventually lean-out to the proper ratio and start running well again. If it isn't too difficult to get at the carb drains, you'd solve the problem quickly by draining them.

If your motor was built before the mid 90s you might consider rebuilding the fuel pump. Gasket/Diaphragm kits are rather cheap. The thin rubber check valves they used on models til the mid 90s like to pucker over time and severely reduce the amount of gas it's pumping.
