What year is it? If it's early 1970s hydro-electric shift, there's a switch on the powerhead that doesn't let you start it with the throttle advanced much. Set the throttle all the way back down, then try it.

BC is great! Know any jobs in Kelowna?...

I WENT OUT AND BOUGHT ANOTHER EVENRUDE MOTOR AND USED MY OLD CONTROLS TO START THE MOTOR BEFORE BUYING IT. IT RAN GREAT SO I BOUGHT IT. WHEN I BROUGHT THE MOTOR HOME AND MOUNTED IT ON MY BOAT AND HOOKED UP THE SAME CONTROLS IT WOULDN'T START. SAME PROBLEM. COULD THE CONTROLS OR IGNITION SWITCH BE FAULTY

Hi, Sally.

Welcome to iboats. :)

Please do not use all caps. It is viewed as shouting.

Go to FAQ and do the electrical troubleshooting in "Outboard wont start".

Good luck. :)

More than likely, you have a bad ignition switch, depending on the motor you bought..

Problem is solved. one of the levers on the throttle was not going back far enough. I adjusted a screw with a lock nut on it just under the fly wheel and it turned over right away. I'm talking 1/8 inch. thanks for all your help.
