I am planning on helping my step-nephew get a '76 (?) Evinrude 75hp outboard fired up that has been setting for about 3-4 years.
What all should I do to bring this back to life after setting that long? It's my sister's boat, which the starter went out on several years ago. They had the starter re-built, but never bothered with getting the boat running again. I'm not sure if it was properly stored or not.
I plan on dumping the fuel and running a decarb through the engine using seafoam and fresh gas. What else would you do? Should I pull the plugs and spray some deep creap in the cylinders and into the carbs? What about turning the motor over by hand a few times to make sure nothing is sticking?
The motor always seemed to have low power, but since buying my boat and working on it and learning the things I've learned, I am thinking a good decarb would help this out a bunch.
I plan on starting the boat off of a hose, being as the lake is 30 minutes away. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
