Hi - I just picked up a dinghy and 2 older Evinrudes came with it. I believe that one is a '72 and the other a '76. The '72 runs pretty well and the '76 (according to the seller) needs a new coil and pull start cord. The Achilles dinghy and 2 motors were pretty cheap and should be fun to play around on.

I was curious if anyone is familar with the 70's Lightwin motors and what I should look into/watch out for? Are these any good? Any suggestions for someone new to motors of this vintage? I should be handy enough to do all maintenance on these.

I was hoping someone could provide me advice on how to use the slow/high speed adjustments.

Great motors. Assuming somebody hasn't screwed around with them too much, adjust the knobs on a boat, on the lake. Start motor and running at full throttle adjust the lower knob to best running condition. Slow down to idle and do the same with the upper knob. Simple. Don't make a big deal out of it.
