I want to do a service on my Tilt, how do I get all the old oil out?, the manual states a 40W engine oil non friction modified type which I have, I currently have hydraulic fluid in mine the port side ram seems to have a small leak, Im wondering if the thin viscosity of the hydraulic oil is allowing the oil to seep past the seals, or maybe the ram is just stuffed and needs a rekit.

Re: 70s Power Tilt

post a pic please. would want to make sure which revision you have. any 3ram trim fits any 3ram engine 1970-1992. a lot of 1970 engines have 1980's trim installed.

1970 systems with oem pumps do not have a bucking problem and hydraulic oil is fine.
the systems that must use ND motor oil are 1988-1992. if the fluid is too thin then they bounce when lowering.

the port ram is a shock. if rebuilt with too much fluid it can crack. if just old and worn out then fluid seep. if rest of system is healthy then maybe it would be best to just buy a late model shock? there is zero demand for them. When listed on ebay you can't hardly give them away. Same shock was also used on some older evinrude and johnson.
