I have a 1971 50hp evinrude that won't start. I replace the power pack with a good used unit from a local marine store. I didn't have any spark before and now I only have spark on one cylinder. The motor also seems to crank hard on the starter, but doesn't pull too bad with the emergency starting cord.
The spark did seem a bit on the weak side.

Any ideas?

Bypass the starter solenoid with a set of jumper cables . Be sure that your battery is fully charged . If that helps check the wireing and solenoid .

I have a 1977 Evinrude 70 HP that has started at the first turn for 4 years. I took the battery out a few months ago and just put it back in. It is 100% charged. Now when key is turned, nothing at all happens. Cables are clean and tight. Solenoid? Fuse? Where to start?

Hmmm???.....You mentioned ," I took the battery out a few months ago....." ....it may sound wierd, but, are you sure the Positive and Negative cables aren't crossed?
