okay, on this oldie but goodie that I am trying to restore, it starts fine, but does not get above 3500rpm at WOT. The prop has been rebuild, along with the carbs, so I thought I would check the plugs. On the upper two, the electrode was a nice powdery tan, while the lower two (especially the port one) were both wet and oily looking. Thinking to check the plugs, I switched the lower and upper plugs, then ran on the muffs for about 5 minutes. After letting things cool down, I pulled the plugs to check them. The upper two (originally the lower two) had slightly tan electrodes and most of the wetness was burnt off. The lower two (originally the upper two) were oily looking. In other words, the lower two were always oily and wet looking.
What does that indicate? What are the possible causes? And, most importantly. what diagnostic tests should be done to most economically identify and correct the situation? Or an I chasing the wrong thing? Remember, the objective is to get 5000RPM at WOT.
Thanks for all your help and good advice!
