72 1150 water tube

What holds the upper end of the water tube in place in the top of the drive shaft housing/bottom on engine block? While trying to reinstall my lower unit, the tube came out. When I try to reinsert it, it won't "stay" in place; it just falls out again. The parts manual doesn't show any kind of seal, etc., that I can find.

put a little grease on it and try to rotate it into place. it should be a friction fit, but if the edge of the water tube catches the end of the seal, it will hang up. Make sure the water tube has no burrs on it.

I have a new seal on the way. The water tube itself is pretty beaten up, and my understanding is that the part is "obsolete"--and I haven't seen anything about a replacement. Is it standard hardware-store size copper tubing, or will I just need to make the one I have work?
