72" D Style Tube Performance

It is time to get a new tube for the kids (teenagers). Our current tube is one of those 60" triangular ones, with open top. Works OK, but want a tube that can be one or two person. Biggest issue with it, is when it flips, it becomes a massive brake, and is "fun" to pull in and wait to drain it.

The closed 72" "D" style looks like a good solution. Doesn't look like it can take on water, and with neoprene pads, the kids will have less tube rash. How well do these perform with a couple of kids, say total weight of two kids will range from just over 200, to around 300lbs, when the "boys" are on it? Also, does it still work well with only one person of 110lbs? or is it too light and trys to fly?

I really wouldn't want to go larger, because hauling it will become a real pain. Any comments welcome.

Hey, I know its cold, and no one wants to talk about being in the water ;-) Any input, please.

I dont have any experience with the 'D' style tube. I have in the past had completely covered tubes. I dont really care for them. You tend to bounce quite a bit more and are a little harder to hang onto. Some of it may just be me though, 6' 3" 250lbs.

Whatever you get, I hope you enjoy it. :)

Are you talking about the U shaped tubes? I have seen them and wondered.

They also now have a wearable tube. You put it on like an oversized life jacket (think really really big). The rope is attached to the "jacket" and you go along for the ride

Anyone try those?
