This linkage looks like a machine screw holds them together with that clip right?

Can I replace this missing link with a coathanger?

From photo #1, I would say a spring would do it, as I recall, that spring screw's right to the plunger.

Photo #2, That screw is more of a self tapping sheet metal screw.

Photo #3, If you can find some, a length of drill rod would be better, a coat hanger may not be stiff enough. You can find drill rod at most steel supplier's

The (coat hanger) link had special grooves in the bent ends to make it snap in and stay in place. Evidently it fell out anyway, huh?
