Hey guys
I've started working on my freebie again. Last year I got it from a friend who was sick of working on it. Good condition, but overheated a diode in the control box within 30 seconds of starting. Traced that to bad connections in the solenoid wires. It had good compression (110 on all four after decarb) so I cleaned the carbs, put new plugs in and started it up. Now, when I cleaned the carbs i noticed some bright red gunk in all the jets. Hmmm, well I cleaned it out and started it anyway. Started great and I ran it for about two minutes after which it sputtered out then died. Couldn't get it to restart although it would cough occasionally. Well, past weekend I took the fuel pump off and there was permatex or something lke it EVERYWHERE. It looks like whoever rebuilt the fuel pump and used permatex or something to seal the diaphragm. So then I pulled the carbs again and all the jets were clogged with big chunks in the float bowl. Then I looked into the intake and not surprisingly there was more there.
Now, obviously, I need to rebuilt the pump and carbs an new fuel lines, but is there anything else I have to do to get rid of this stuff?
On a good note, compression is still 110 on all so it didn't hurt anything.
