To get full speed out of my motor I have to twist and hold ,but if I let off tension the motor slows down
This really kills my hand when going on long distance.

Looking at the motor I feel that my throttle is hitting this piece and somehow backing itself off (sorry my service manual doesnt tell me what this parts name is)

The only adjustment is a small screw that deals with the black piece that engages when trying to start the motor in gear. It seems that it engages to stop the flywheel from turning when in gear.

It looks like this is a normal operation but I just wanted to check and make sure.

If I somehow bent this piece or moved it back a little would that
mess up the operation of the flywheel lock?

Is there anything else that I should look into besides this?

Thanks for the help!!

Yep. Take the twist grip off. Inside, you should find a spring and tapered friction plug. The plug will probably be stuck up inside the grip, so you'll have to persuade it a bit to get it out. Aha! not in there? That's your problem. It is customary to remove the friction plug when running with remote controls. The dealer probably has a junk drawer full of them.

The thing you are pointing to is the recoil starter lockout which keeps you from starting the motor in gear and wide open throttle. That makes you go over the transom for an unexpected swim. Don't mess with it.

Sounds good. If I could get that darn screw off.

I may need to drill it out or cut up my grip to get it off. I was looking at getting a new grip anyways because this one feels as hard as metal so if I had to cut into it I would do so with a smile.
I'll attack it tomorrow.

That aside I wanted to show you this as well.

The piece marked with an arrow looks to be a possible spring thats nothing but a big clump.
Is this another possiblilty?
The adjustment screw adjusts it but its not making any contact.

Thanks for the help and replys!!

Am I seeing what I think I'm seeing? It looks like the casting is busted, a big chunk missing out of it. The white plastic idle adjusting screw is supposed to go against that "chunk" to limit how far toward "slow" you can turn the throttle, thus setting the idle RPMs.

I think I understand what your saying.

If your talking about the grip I just did that before I took the picture trying to get the darn thing off.

Your saying there is something missing that the adjusment screw going into that blocks it from going too far right to kill the motor.

Actually that makes sense because when I turn throttle all way to the right it kills my motor.

Hopefully I'm on your page.

That has helped me a few times. Motor always stays unlocked and when Ive hit motor goes up and I right twist the motor off.
Whole lotta stumps in south carolina.

If thats correct then thats only messing with how far I can twist to the right (slowing/off), but wouldnt have anything to do with loseing full speed when I take my hand off?

A problem but not with the full speed, right?

Thanks for the help!! :)
