'72' ford 351 W

I am replacing the one wire Delco alt. and the wireing.Does the one wire on the alt. go to the volt-meter then to the hot post on the starter,which is connected to the battery or what????? :confused:

Basically that is how it is connected. I have the same setup but have an ammeter instead of a voltmeter. I could send you a wiring diagram if you post an email address.

Do not connect the alternator wire through the volt meter.. The volt meter will not handle the amps that the alternator puts out... <br /><br />The volt meter can be connected to any 12 volt source-low amp, like the power to the other gauges...<br /><br />Best way... The alternator wire should go directly to the positive battery terminal...

OKAY,thanks Snapper! I am replacing all the wiring in a 26' Penn Yan and the way it was hooked up I couldnt tell because the boat belonged to an electrican and he run a rats nest in it!!! Couldnt tell what was what because of splices!splices! and more splices!!!! Thanks again! And thanks Ratanna, my e mail is oglesby@always-online.com.
