I haven't really used this motor much and I'm trying to get it going again. I think I or the shop has me out of adjustment.
Local repair shops here in Denver mostly say it's too old for them and I don't really trust the shop they refer me to.

1. When I am advancing the control box to WOT I notice that the timing advance lever hits it's stop way before the carbs are completely open.
Is this normal?

2.Shifter control box ( my favorite thing to open! ) has about an 1 1/2" of play at the top of the handle before the carbs and throttle advance start to move. I have disconnected the cable end at the engine and the advance and carb setup move freely and have been cleaned and lubed. I can pop the box open but what do I look for next? I can take pics if needed.

Thanks to all,
Jim

On item # 1 ----That is normal.-On item # 2 you need to understand that the control box completes the shift function before it applies throttle.------So what is your motor doing / not doing ????

Thank you Racerone,
Thanks for #1 answer.I will return advance stop to original location, it just seemed odd that it would not be advancing along with throttle position but I guess there is a limit to how much advance is required.
I had this boat out once this year , it would idle fine but would die as soon as I put it in forward gear, maybe I should have gone to half throttle or so immediately to get it moving.
New correct plugs, carbs cleaned and rebuilt, new hoses, etc.
Fastest idle in a tub is at about 3/4 out on idle mixture on both carbs, needles are fine, new nylon bearings, fresh gas.I think that part is OK.
Tach not hooked up.

I have opened control box for 2nd time in 12 years and am cleaning and relubing everything in sight. I notice that after manually pulling on the disconnected throttle cable there is resistance on the cable when I hit the advance stop but when I pull it to more to WOT the carbs keep opening.I might venture that this is normal.

Still trying to get rid of slop on shifter handle, black plastic knurled wheel at end of shift cable seems to be in correct position, end of cable lines up with hole in linkage.

Will relube everything and report back.
