took my boat out memorial day weekend and the weekend after, ran great memorial day, the next week had an ignition problem, I put a new ignition switch and a bunch of new wiring to the motor before my first trip out, the problem is that it wouldn't turn over, I wiggled the wires where I made my splices and I wiggled the throttle to make sure it was in nuetral and then it turned over and started, very frustrating, , this happened 3 or 4 times, at the worst times, I had to get the oars out to keep from hitting shore, Next time I will take my meter with me and figure it out.

Here's my question my splices are all made with butt connectors, I tried to solder but the solder won't take, anybody know of any tricks, I tried flux.

thanks again to everyone who helped get her back in the water, J

You can sand the wires with fine paper, then mix in the flux so each strand is covered. I sometimes remove the metal of the butt connector, crimp the two wires into it (use flux everywhere) and sweat solder the butt connector. Now slide the shrink tube over the splice.

BTW - a new engine wiring harness is available at Surplusunlimited.com
