I am not getting spark on the lower 2 cylinders of this good 'ol motor. I plan on doing an ignition test in the next few days. My understanding is that there is only 1 coil on this v4 with cd ignition. Does anybody know what the firing order is? I am thinking if the coil does not recharge fast enough, then the lower cylinders would not have sufficient spark, but the upper two will. All this depends on the firing order.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Firing order is 1, 2, 3, 4 on all Johnrude crossflow V4s...

You also may have a bad distributor cap.

I have been doing some testing, and I think the problem is the high tension lead from the coil to the distributor. I disconnected it from the distributor and held (with insulated pliers) it against the block and cranked. The first 2-3 sparks would go to the block, then the next 1 - 2 would go backwards to the pliers, then the block, then back. Am getting new coil (an actual OEM coil, not aftermarket) today. hopefully it will provide the correction needed.
