Hey guys just a quick question. I got my kit for the water pump. I took everything out of the box. Watched a few Youtube videos for some hints and tricks. All the videos showed a gasket under the wear plate.
I don't have a gasket for under the wear plate. I don't see one in the exploded diagram and didn't take one off the old pump.

So for the question. Where can I find this gasket. Or can I just use some silicone goop to seal it.

do not use silicone, its useless for that and if you get any petrol near it the silicone will break up.
I had one of the engines and mine didn't have a gasket neither.
no gasket is listed on the parts diagram so just go ahead and fit the new stuff that came in the kit.
if you have the kit that comes with a new plate and no gasket is there it don't have one.

if you would prefer to have one then get a bit of gasket paper and make your own. !!!!

Don't go by youtube. The motor doesn't have a gasket, never did, and doesn't need one. Some sealer won't hurt, but it actually doesn't need that either. But clean it up good.

Um....you say you got a "kit". Did you get the plastic pump update kit? I'm not 100% positive, that might use a gasket, but I really don't think so.

I got the oem replacement kit it came with the housing and wear plate. I have an oring for between the 2 but nothing for under the plate.

I only watched youtube for hints to get the impeller to fit in the housing. I tried to get it in the housing last night for about an hour. While watching TV. So what I'm thinking is a little vasoline and I should get it to go with out any issues.

A little bit of slip-easy won't hurt. Some use dish soap. Some use oil. Yeah, it is a tight fit. Water lubricates it when running. But you can see why you must never run it out of the water.

The impeller goes onto the shaft.----Then you confirm that the key is driving the impeller.--Then you push the housing down on it while rotating the driveshaft.-----2 minute job every time !

Having issues. I rebuilt my pump today. I am learning more and more that the person I bought this boat from didn't know what they were doing. After putting 4 heli-coils in so I could hold the housing down, I am having huge leaks. I have 2 extra parts, I have a seal that is about the size of a quarter and also an o ring. As I pulled the old parts out I set the new parts off to the side in the same order, I didn't remove either of these parts.

I have a huge leak under the wear plate, I think I will be able to fix that with some silicone goop. Another from the top of the housing around the shaft. Also I am spitting water out of what appears to be a weep hole in the housing.

Any Suggestions?

How do you know you have a leak? put it back according to parts diagram...ya can't go wrong..............OMC did the research!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had low pressure and spitting out of the tale tell. So i pulled the lower unit back off and put the muffs on it.

It doesn't show exactly where the seal and o ring go. I think the oring goes up the shift below the spline. I'm not sure where the seal goes

There is more than one "OEM Replacement kit". It would help to know which one you got. Aluminum housing?? Plastic housing?? Kit part number???

I have kit pn 0439140. It has a plastic housing
