I own a 1973 Chrysler Outboard, 55 HP, Model 555 HF, Serial no. 4803. (Coils located underneath the flywheel.)

There are three wires connected to each breaker point. The first one is from the condenser, the second one is from the coil, and the third one goes to the engine's terminal block. Where should this third wire be connected on the terminal block? The terminal block has the following connections:
1. Yellow - Start
2. ..... .....
3. White - IGN - Tach
4. Green - Choke
5. Orange - Heat
6. Red - Battery (+)
7. Blue - IGN
8. Black - GND (-)

Thank you.

Re: 73 Chrysler outboard wiring question

According to the manual, you should have:
- brown or grey/white wire going to the coil
- black going to the condenser
- white wire goes to the engine terminal block on the white terminal
3. White - IGN - Tach

This applies to alternator stators with two or three leads.

If this doesn't apply to your motor, write back and give me the colors of the wires you're dealing with.

Re: 73 Chrysler outboard wiring question

I don't have an alternator or stator on this model engine, just points and condenser.
The third wire in question looks like it was made from a black lamp cord where someone crimped connectors on each end. So I can't tell you what the color should be, just that it is connected to the points. The other end is not connected to anything at this time.
Should this third wire still be connected to the 3. White - IGN - Tach post?

Re: 73 Chrysler outboard wiring question

Sorry, all I can see is that it goes to the White - IGN - Tach. Maybe somebody else can help you. As long as your other wires are the same as I indicated above, you should be fine.

Sorry I can't help more.

Re: 73 Chrysler outboard wiring question

those 2 little lamp cord wires are used to turn your motor off....hook one each to the blue and white terminals, you know, the ones marked IGNition ....the key switch connects them together when turned to the off position, killing the spark....the blue and white wires should be hooked to the 'M' terminals on the back of the key switch.
