73 Evinrude 18HP won't run

I recently rebuild the carb on my 73 18hp Evinrude and have the following problem.<br /><br />It starts up OK but it pops off and on at idle. Then when I put it in forward gear it runs OK for about 5 seconds then it pops...not loud...loses power and just dies. I can start it again but the same sequence occurs.<br /><br />I put new fuel hoses on the motor when I rebuilt the carb and put a new screen in the fuel pump.<br /><br />Any ideas?<br /><br />David.
