73 Johnson 40hp idle set help

OK so I rebuilt carb put it all back together and I can really figure out how to set idle. On the motor it says slow and start which setting do I put it on to adjust the slow screw?

OK so I set the low speed screw while throttle was on slow and in neutral. When I bump it into gear I have to bump throttle up a little or it will die. Should I leave it or should I turn the slow screw a little?

The idle SPEED (RPM) screw is on the gear where a remote control cable attaches (if used). It merely limits how slow you can move the throttle control. Adjust it to desired idle speed in gear. Yes, it will speed up a tad when you shift to neutral.

The idle MIXTURE adjustment (needle valve) is on the carburetor. Adjust it for smoothest running when throttle is at slowest limited RPM, described above.

Hard to do this in a barrel so hoping today I can get it on the lake and tune it a little better
