The old girls been setting for 3 years so I rebuilt the carb: new gaskets, float, needle. Sprayed a whole can of carb cleaner through every hole and everything seemed to flow fine but it will not start. It will run for a second with a squirt of starting fluid but there's no fuel coming out of the jet. I took the carb off and the bowl is full of fuel, the needle isn't stuck, the fuel line at the carb isn't blocked and after cleaning it again, I still have the same problems. The only thing I didn't remove from the carb were the two little plugs (don't know what they're called) because I don't know how to get them off. The slow speed adjustment needle is backed out all the way. This thing should be gushing fuel. Wuz going on? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

-fish

Your jets are still clogged, Fish.

You should have gotten new welch plugs in the carb kit. To remove the old ones, drill a small hole in them and pop them out with a scribe or other sharp pointed tool (Not a drill bit. They are too brittle).

After you clear the jet orifices the new plugs are seated with a sharp tap on a punch.

You might be able to clear them without removing the welch plugs with air pressure through the passages where the needles seat. Soak well in carb cleaner first.

Good luck. :)

I've got 5 of the 9.5 motors and they are a tad temperamental.

You should not use starter fluid on a two stroke. Use a little pre-mix.

Just under the bowl where the choke is on the carb, you will see a small hole, left of center. That hole feeds back to the high speed orifice, which is just behind the drain plug on the float bowl. If you remove the float bowl drain plug and blow carb cleaner through the little hole under the choke, you can reassure yourself that the high speed jet is clear.

The lean rich knob should be turned clockwise until you just meet resistance (don't tighten), then backed out 1.5 turns. Any adjustment after that should be made at idle under load (in gear), either with a test prop or tied to a dock.

Just for your own satisfaction, take the plugs out, connect the wires, lay them against the block for a ground, and pull your starter. You should see a nice strong blue spark.

The rings on these motors have a tendency to stick. At some point, you need to run a compression test.

IT'S ALIVE!! I thought that bolt on the float bowl was just a drain. When I removed it and cleaned it out and reinstalled everything, she fired right up!

Thanks a bunch guys!

-fish
:D

Sounds like your needle isn't seating correctly. I would suggest a new carb. kit. You really should have started a new thread of your own. Best of luck. Rick.
